What do you think of Hybrid Workouts?

Are you the kind of person who finds the best workout routine – loves loves loves it – can do it every day and never get bored? Wow – keep doing what you love if it is working for you – for me, I need some variety and so do my muscles.  I find that after I’ve done a particular program for 4-12 weeks, I’m ready for something new.  My body and my brain get so used to the routines that they no longer give me the satisfaction or the results that I want.  So my latest combo is putting two of my favorite programs together: Chalene Johnson’s Turbo FIRE and Les Mills PUMP – the perfect pairing of high intensity cardio with rep effect strength training.  Could this Hybrid Workout be right for you? So What is TurboFire®?

TurboFire is a total-body cardio-conditioning workout program with the best music and the best trainer, where you get the best spot in class (seriously – the camera is looking right up at Chalene like you are on the floor with everyone else – cool!).  The upbeat music motivates you to dial up your intensity levels, doing kickboxing drills and aerobic exercises mixed with dance moves in a class setting.

If you haven’t done Les Mills PUMP, (and again,  not ready for my Hybrid Workout yet), you may want to do the first one or two phases of the program before trying the Hybrid Workout. OR you can swap the cardio days (walking) for one of the Turbo FIRE workouts right away!

What makes the Hybrid Workout so effective?

With Turbo FIRE it’s all about the HIIT and with PUMP it’s all about THE REP EFFECT™   — putting these two together allows you to burn fat plus get lean and strong!  How?  With the High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) you burn up to 9x more fat and calories than traditional cardio.  Unlike traditional cardio, HIIT means working out at your max in up to 1-minute intervals.  This means 4 minutes of HIIT can be more effective than 30 to 45 minutes on a treadmill or stair climber!!  Add to that the LES MILLS PUMP program which uses light-to moderate weights at a higher rate of repetition.     Awesome. I’d like to try Turbo Fire one day. I have Body Pump. It would be fun to combine them. Hybrids are a great way of mixing things up. I like the P90X/Insanity hybrid. Great post.

    I’m planning Les Mills Pump for my next workout. I haven’t done Turbo Fire yet either. The hybrid sounds fun though so I’ll keep it in mind for when I’m ready!
