change aug 12This week’s topic is about how you are changing yourself by challenging yourself. Do you invest in your own personal development everyday? Working out is an investment to change your body, what about other areas you want to improve? Learn a language, learn a new skill, play an instrument – all these things can be great ways to challenge yourself to change yourself – for the better!

Changing yourself

This topic seemed like a good sequel to last week’s “Challenging yourself.”

As we go through life, we have a choice. We can choose to passively drift down the currents of life, allowing the ebbs and flows of life’s river to take us wherever it goes, or we can choose to steer our own course, ensuring that we avoid the sudden drops and fearsome rocks that sit in the middle of the current. We can choose to navigate our life with our hand on the rudder, taking the rapids that life give us in a controlled way. We can choose a different river altogether from our original path, through effort and skill, finding a path to our destination.

Change happens. We can either allow ourselves to be acted upon, or we can choose to act for ourselves. We can change ourselves, or we can be changed by an outside source.

Change is a part of life, and it’s supremely important that when we change, we change in a manner that is what we want to have happen. We need to choose our path, and follow that choice.

Learn to anticipate change in the world around you. Read widely, and think deeply. Choose wisely and act boldly. Fear the comfortable path. Take the path that demands challenge.
