Is Lose Weight One of Your New Year’s Resolutions?

Every January, millions of people make New Year’s Resolutions that include losing weight, getting new yearhealthier, exercising more, eating better, etc.  Are any of these on your list this year?  What are you doing to get started in realizing those goals?  Typically we set these big goals – like “lose 20 pounds” but do not have a realistic plan to accomplish – or we start out strong, join a gym, throw out all the bad for you holiday foods – then by mid-February, get busy with school, work, kids, etc. and our good intentions start to slip away and become less of a priority.

How can you make this year different?

Set more manageable  realistic goals.  Start with saying, I will exercise 30 minutes per day, 3-6 days per week.  Find a program that you know you can afford and stick with – if your schedule is already packed, will you honestly be able to make time to fit in going to/from a gym to workout?  Can you afford the gym membership?  Choose something that you can do wherever, whenever – like walking/running or a fitness DVD.

Make one healthy change per day – like stop eating 2-3 hours before bedtime, cutting out high fructose corn syrup, cutting our hydrogenated oil, reducing or eliminating fried or processed foods, adding more healthy grains, fruits, and vegetables. Don’t try to do this all at once, but make one small change each day and by the end of the month you’ll see incredible results.
